CASE STUDY:

MAXI-LIFT BUCKETS HELP NEBRASKA GRAIN COOPERATIVE INCREASE EFFICIENCY AND THROUGHPUT
When Mike Meadows saw it raining indoors, he knew it was time to get new buckets. It wasn’t water he was worried about; he had grain raining down on his head. As the maintenance supervisor at the Cooperative Producers Inc. terminal elevator in Hastings, Neb., he knew the elevator buckets at his grain elevator station weren’t throwing the grain properly, spilling as much as 10 percent down the leg each day. DIGGER BUCKETS 101:

WHAT IS A DIGGER BUCKET?

A digger bucket is a slightly oversized bucket spaced intermittently between segments of plastic buckets. The digger bucket is made of a more impact and abrasion resistant material than the plastic buckets. Digger buckets are designed to be approximately ¼” larger in both width and projection to clear a path through the boot section of the elevator. Digger buckets help to minimize wear of plastic buckets by allowing them to travel through the boot section of the bucket elevator through a trail that is mostly clear of material. Digger buckets are typically spaced as every 8th or 10th bucket on the belt or chain.
